On 8 March KAPKAR/ TAW-BW-5860 has won the Wood Architecture Prize 2006!
The words of Aaron Betsky, chairman of the jury: “This is the most surprising project among the entries. A jewel is made with relatively cheap material. How the barn has been renovated and furnished, gives it a whole new life and a totally different character. The combination of spatial effect, construction and furniture is beautiful and the raw wood has been made attractive. The variety of the space is wonderful, the contrast between the old part and the studio house, like two battery poles, creates a lot of tension. A lot of attention has been paid to the beautiful detailing. It is clear that architecture and visual art (can) be very closely intertwined.
De woorden van Aaron Betsky, voorzitter van de jury: ‘Dit is het meest verrassende project onde de inzendingen. Met relatief goedkoop materiaal is een juweel gemaakt. Hoe de schuur is verbouwd en ingericht, geeft het geheel nieuw leven en een totaal ander karakter. De combinatie van ruimtelijke werking, constructie en meubilair is mooi en juist het ruwe hout is aantrekkelijk gemaakt. De variëteit van de ruimte is schitterend, de tegenstelling tussen het oude gedeelte en de atelierwoning roept, als twee accupolen, veel spanning op. Eer is veel aandacht aan de fraaie detaillering besteed. Duidelijk is dat architectuur en beeldende kunst zeer dicht met elkaar verweven (kunnen) zijn.
